To create a bootable USB Drive (such as a USB thumb drive, diskonkey, etc.).... Note: This has only been tested with WindowsXP SP2 and with a 16MB USB Drive 1) Create a bootable floppy disk (using Ghost Boot Wizard or any tool you want) 2) Download HP's Format Utility for HP Drive Key from: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqdt/us/download/20306.html Note: Though HP's format utility is for HP USB Drives, it appears to work on any USB drive 3) Install and run HP's Format Utility (with your USB drive inserted) 4) Format the USB drive as FAT AND choose 'Create a DOS startup disk'. Select the A drive (A:\) as the DOS system files (see http://www.pcstats.com/articleimages/200411/usbprojects_2.gif for an example picture) 5) Once formatted, not all files are copied from the floppy disk (no idea why) so you need to manually copy the files from the A drive to the USB drive. Note: I was careful NOT to overwrite any files that WERE copied by HP's Format Utility. How to configure your computer to boot from the USB drive will vary from computer to computer (see your computer's BIOS) To create a bootable CD from this USB drive I used Nero 6 and used the USB drive (in my case the G drive) as the boot floppy (no special steps to use IF Nero sees the USB drive as a source for a boot image)
